Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Srinagar: Dal Lake Houseboat +

Arrive at Srinagar Airport and transfer directly to the Dal Lake ghat, where a shikara will take you out to your beautiful houseboat. Settle in and enjoy an afternoon Shikara ride on the lake before dinner on the houseboat.

Day 2 Srinagar: Floating Market and Old Town +

Rise early for a dawn shikara ride to the extraordinary floating vegetable and flower market on Dal Lake — one of the most remarkable sights in India. Return for breakfast on the houseboat. Afternoon guided walk through Old Srinagar visiting the Jama Masjid, Shah Hamdan mosque and the famous craft bazaars.

Day 3 Srinagar: Mughal Gardens +

Morning visit to the beautiful Mughal Gardens — Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh, both laid out by Mughal emperors as summer retreats. Afternoon free to explore the craft workshops of the old city — papier-mâché, Kashmiri carpet weaving and the famous shawl-making industry.

Day 4 Depart Srinagar +

After breakfast on the houseboat, shikara back to the ghat and transfer to Srinagar Airport for your onward flight.

Opened in April 2013, the former Neil Armstrong houseboat is easily the most luxurious on either lake. Owned and run by Altaf Chapri, the place oozes style and charm. Situated on the western bank of Dal Lake with uninterrupted views of the lake's shimmering waters, it consists of 5 beautiful rooms with two members of staff per room and a wonderful French-trained chef.

What is the best time of year for this journey? +

June to September is the ideal window for Ladakh and the high Himalaya, when the passes are open and the weather is stable. Kashmir is beautiful from April to October, with October offering the famous chinar autumn colours. Winter travel is possible to Kashmir but the high passes close.
